I never thought I’d find a place as exuberant as this one. And yes, you’re reading it right. This eye-popping and jaw-dropping scenery was taken in the Philippines! How can a place like this exist in our country?! Well, my friend, don’t underestimate our Inang Bayan. Didn’t you know that when God showered beauty and splendor, she was there with arms wide open? She was ready to catch as much beauty as she can, and she did! Philippines is one of the richest countries in the world….not in money matters but in God-given riches.
Out of the 3500 species of plants and animals in the world, 1196 can be found in our Motherland. That’s not all! 46% of those species are endemic (only in the Philippines).
Sadly, all these wonders may not exist any longer. Between 1990 and 2005, Philippines lost one-third of its forest cover. In 2001, less than 8% of the country was covered by original tropical rainforest! Less than 100 years ago, this was still 70%!
If you’re asking me, the illegal loggers are the ones responsible for much of this. The government has taken enough steps to stop them. They have imposed laws prohibiting the unrestrained cutting of trees. But we just don’t have discipline, don’t we?
Surely, you were astonished when you saw the beautiful picture of Loboc River. At first, you may not have believed that it was taken from a place in our country. I was surprised too!
Philippine rainforests may not be as glamorous as the rainforests in Central and South America. It may not be a part of the Seven Wonders of the World. But surely, this kind of beautiful treasure is worth saving for.As the line goes, “Divided we fall, united we stand,” we can do something! We can still rescue our beautiful and rich forests from depletion. If we could just stop acting like two year-olds. If we could just stop thinking only of ourselves, then maybe we can actually make a difference.
This is my plea. Rich or poor, you can help save our rainforests. Come on! Can you afford to lose such beauty and splendor that can only be found in our Motherland?
It’s up to you, my friend. Will you cease this wonderful work of art from existing or will you preserve it for the whole world to see?
